Trade, Ports & Blue Economy in detail
01The question
What this pillar asks
Cargo, energy and data all pass through the same water. This pillar covers the infrastructure that carries them: shipping lanes, ports, pipelines and undersea cables, together with the economics of who invests, who profits and who carries the risk. It also covers fisheries and marine resources, where the value of the sea is realised locally instead of in transit.
Focus areas
- Red Sea shipping lanes, ports and logistics hubs
- Energy transportation, undersea cables and infrastructure security
- Fisheries, maritime resources and sustainable blue economy practices
- Investment and trade risk analysis for regional and international stakeholders
Outputs
- Trade and investment risk reports
- Strategic studies on ports and maritime infrastructure
- Policy briefs supporting economic integration and development
Commission work in this pillar
Research in this area can be commissioned as a policy brief, a strategic report or a closed-door briefing.
Talk to usFisheries and maritime resources
The sea, realised locally
The corridor is not only a shipping lane. Fisheries, coastal livelihoods and the management of maritime resources decide who benefits from the sea locally. Each carries its own questions of sustainability, regulation and enforcement.
